A year ago I asked my younger siblings Bonnie and Sam Simmons to take pictures of houses in varying states of decay in and around my old stomping grounds in Anderson and Loudon Counties, Tennessee. These pictures were developed as C-prints and sent to me in NYC. They waited in a corner of my studio while I thought about them in terms of voyerism and the house/home as a metaphor for the body. Reflecting on Ghada Amer’s pornography stitched into canvases, I decided to create my own pornographic stitchings on these photos. The vaginas and penises in these photos are meant to be ambiguous, beautiful, disturbing, and just plain funny.
